The Jan. 7 reorganization meeting at Towamensing Township was followed by the regular meeting normally held on the first Thursday.

Penny Kleintop was chosen as the supervisors' chair and township treasurer. Tom Newman was appointed vice chairman and will serve as emergency management officer.Scott Mosier will continue as roadmaster with Phil Costenbader as his assistant.Lora Nothstein remains as secretary and the chief administrative officer for pensions. Beth Mesko is assistant secretary.Tom Nanovic will continue as solicitor, and Carbon Engineering is the engineering firm.Carl Faust has the multiple positions of zoning officer, uniform building code officer and uniform building code inspector. Brad Kowalski is assistant inspector.Richard Workman is on the vacancy board.Sean Corey and Scott Bieber will be the sewage enforcement officers.Jennie Cheng is the solicitor for the zoning hearing board and the planning commission. Jeremy Barbosa is the secretary for the planning commission.Depositories for township funds are First Niagara Bank and Jim Thorpe National Bank. Any two of the three supervisors are required to sign checks.Lora Nothstein was approved to take an advanced Quick Books course on the Sunday of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors. It costs an extra $75. She will be voting delegate. Scott Mosier will take a flaggers' course at PSATS, also a special course for $75. Phil Costenbader is the alternate for the flaggers' course. A $150 food allowance was approved for each person attending PSATS.Mileage rate for use of a private car was set at 55.5 cents per mile.Don Bonett was reappointed to the zoning hearing board with Larry Hahn remaining as an alternate.Meeting dates are set for the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. for supervisors; planning commission, second Monday at 7 p.m.; recreation, April 18 and Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.; historical commission, fourth Thursday at 7 p.m. A staff meeting will be held the fourth Thursday at 2:30 p.m.Towamensing Fire Company's list of upcoming events was approved for the year.In the regular meeting Karl Rolappe said the Towamensing Historical Commission set a date for a workshop meeting with the owners of the Greenzweig School, supervisors, solicitor and engineer Rudy Wolfe on Jan. 21, 6:30 p.m., to discuss the school's transfer to the commission.Employee wages and health benefits will remain the same subject to a future review. Road crew members each receive a $100 shoe allowance.The fire police were approved to help at the Black Bear Triathlon on May 18.Beltzville Lake Estates wanted township approval for a change of road name from Teaberry Lane to Aldi Drive. The township had no objections to the change of name of the private road.In the roadmaster's report it was noted there were three snow events. Some hoses were damaged on equipment. They trimmed brush and hauled recyclables. They will be working on Old Forest Road which will not be graded until spring thaw.Equipment has been numbered so maintenance can be scheduled on a regular basis.Ashes must be bagged in sealed bags. Open bags still allow the fine ash to blow back into workers' faces.There is $77,000 in delinquent garbage fees. It will be taken to court to enforce collections - $25,000 of any collections will go into a truck fund. A new truck costs from $250,000 to $300,000 and will last 10 years. Garbage is always picked up even if payments are delinquent to keep the township clean. Electronic equipment can be dropped off at the township near the recycling gate and the township will dispose of it. It can no longer be picked up with garbage and landfilled.The roadmaster can be reached at

ttroad@ptd.net.Newman made a motion to allow active military members to pay garbage rates at the single senior cost.Mike Netznik of the recreation commission would like the new ball field to be for soccer and have two baseball fields on the land purchased from the Service Team. He said baseball fields can be rented for tournaments and bring in some money.The cost per player has gone up from $35 to $100.Newman said the township has invested $21,000 at the Summer Mountain field. In response to a lack of parking Engineer Greg Haas has been to the field and planned additional parking. Newman said the new field was planned as a softball field because there is no softball field for girls. The township needs a list of infrastructure needs at the new field. The field at Service Team was only graded and planted because it is where the township building will eventually go.Supervisor Guy Seifert said in addition to the money invested, materials and equipment use were donated with the expectation that it was to be a girls' field.
