Lehighton police said an employee of a borough business has been charged with stealing money.

Police said on Feb. 6 they were summoned to the Rite Aid store at 241 N. First St. regarding a theft by an employee.It was learned by the store loss prevention that employee Rachel Kowalsky, 18, of 405 Mahoning Alley, Lehighton, had taken money from the cash register on several dates between Jan. 7 and Feb. 2. The total loss was $1,040.Kowalsky has been charged with theft by deception and receiving stolen property. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 3 at 1:30 p.m.
