A Nescopeck man has been charged by McAdoo police following an incident on Feb. 17.

Patrolman Steven Homanko was on patrol at 1:30 a.m. when he observed a vehicle traveling at an apparent high rate of speed on South Kennedy Drive. The driver slammed on the brakes at the intersection with Grant Street, making a right turn on to East Grant. Homanko followed and observed the vehicle swerve from side to side and fail to stop at a stop sign. He initiated a traffic stop.The officer approached the vehicle and noted a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from the car. In plain view, on the passenger side floor, there was a bag containing green vegetable matter. In the back seat, the officer observed several open, empty bottles of beer.The driver was identified as Steven Douglas Harris, 49, of Fourth Street in Nescopeck. A routine records check determined that Harris' driving privileges had been suspended-DUI related. Harris was given, and failed, multiple field sobriety tests, and registered a .124 blood alcohol content on a portable breath test. He refused to submit to a blood test.Harris was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license, driving with a DUI suspended license, driving at an unsafe speed, failure to obey a traffic control device, careless driving, and failure to obey restrictions on alcoholic beverages (driving with an open container).
