Palmerton library announces upcoming events

The Palmerton Area Library has announced some of its upcoming activities for March.

For children, there is a free Preschool Story Hour every Friday at 10:30 a.m.Tail Waggin' Tutors Kids read to Dogs is held the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. until noon. This is free but parents must preregister for a time slot by calling the library at (610) 826-3424. The next program will take place March 16.Watercolor painting classes are offered two days a week for children. Call the teacher at (610) 824-4962 for more information. New classes for adults and children are now forming.Homework Helpers takes place every Wednesday: grades 7-12 at 2:45 p.m., and grades 1-6 at 3:15 p.m. Volunteer tutors will be available to help children with homework and other assignments. This is free but parents must register each child.There is a Teen Advisory Group for teens in grades 5-12. New members are welcome. Call the library and ask for Mariann for details.The Knitting Club meets the first and third Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. It is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting at all skill levels.The Third Monday Book Club meets the third Monday of each month from noon until 1 p.m. and discusses a different book each month. On March 18 the club will be discussing Hotel of the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. New members are always welcome.Yoga Classes are offered every Saturday at 9 a.m. Call the teacher at (570) 436-1762 for more information or stop in Saturday mornings.The library board of directors meets the third Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.Friends of the Palmerton Area Library meet four times a year. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.A new quilt guild is forming in Palmerton and will meet at the library on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Please use the side door.The library has used books and movies for sale. The basement book sale is open during regular library hours. New books arrive on a weekly basis as well as movies, puzzles and CDs.Volunteers are needed to sort and place books on shelves.The library's annual fund drive is under way. www.palmertonarealibrary.com.Roger Latzgo will perform at the library on Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.The library is hosting a bookmark contest for children for National Library Week, which is April 14-20. Call the library for more information.The annual photography show will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 14. Call the library to enter photographs in the show.Computer classes are held at the library on Thursdays at 5 p.m. Interested participants must sign up and class size is limited. Class will include computer basics, such as word processing, email and using the Internet. There are also classes on digital camera and photo editing; online tools and applications; and What is social media? This class includes Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Skype and more.Visit the library website for information about upcoming events.
