A triaxle dump truck was gutted by flames just after 10 a.m. yesterday along Mahanoy Avenue (SR54) in Hometown. Seeing smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment, the driver, with M. Weider Trucking of Pine Grove, pulled into the parking lot of the Hometown Fire Company and called 911. Rush Township police, who responded almost immediately, saw the truck's engine compartment and cab become fully engulfed when they arrived. Hometown Fire Company responded quickly and extinguished the fire before it could spread to the rest of the truck or adjacent structures. No injuries were reported.
