Day of Listening

The second annual National Day of Listening will be hosted on Nov. 27 this year.The National Day of Listening is an effort to encourage all Americans to honor a friend, a loved one, or a member of the community by interviewing them about their lives. It is a project of StoryCorps. Participants are encouraged to record their National Day of Listening interviews using equipment that is readily available in most homes from cell phones to tape recorders to computers or even pen and paper. StoryCorps has created a free Do-It-Yourself interview guide with equipment recommendations and interview instructions.According to information about StoryCorps, it is an independent non-profit whose mission is to honor and celebrate one another's lives through listening. StoryCorps is one of the largest archives of American voices ever created, with interviews gathered from more than 50,000 people in all 50 states.The organization can be reached at (646) 723-7020 at the organization's Brooklyn office.DG visits LionessLions District 14U District Governor Bob Neumoyer and his Partner in Service, wife Becky, will be visiting the Western Pocono Lioness Club at the Tuesday, Nov. 24, meeting. The group gathers at 7 p.m. at the American Legion in Gilbert.Carole Hudson will be installed as a new member.Zion hosts CWUChurch Women United of Monroe County will be holding its annual covered dish meeting at noon, Saturday, Dec. 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.Christmas stockings, made by various church groups and individuals, will be collected and later distributed to various institutions.Entertainment will be by the Jubilant Jugglers for Jesus.The installation of officers will take place and Sue Ayers will receive the third annual Margaret Wyckoff Wells Award for her dedication in the community and through out the country and coordinating worldwide mission projects through her church.Anyone needing more information may contact B. Feller at (570) 992-4758.Cooperation toutedWestern Pocono Lioness president Arlene Mullery was the special speaker at the Western Pocono Lions Club.She spoke of past cooperation among the clubs, including the joint work in the Lions October Club Service day and the upcoming Dec. 5, Breakfast with Santa.That cooperation should be happening at all of the two clubs' events she suggested, reminding all that "we serve" is the keystone of community, and the larger world, outreach services.Christmas PreparationOn Nov. 28, McMichaels UMC will begin its preparation for the Advent season. Church members will be putting up a Christmas tree, beginning at 4 p.m. Thereafter they will hold a covered dish dinner. Participants are reminded to bring something to eat, beverages will be provided.The church now has a Web site at mcmichaelsumc.org.St. Peter's UMC in Saylorsburg will decorate its house of worship on Sunday, Nov. 29, the First Sunday of Advent, beginning at 5 p.m., with a covered dish.Sounds of the SeasonThe Pleasant Valley Choral Society will present its 27th annual holiday concert at Pleasant Valley High School, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, and 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13.Cantata on calendarThe joint choir for Effort UMC and St. Matthew's UCC, Kunkletown, with 60 members, has been practicing for the group's annual Christmas Cantata.It will be given at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 19 , at St. Matthew's, and at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, at Effort UMC.For more information, one can contact either church or visit;
