Families were invited to the annual tree lighting ceremony held at Sam Miller Field, located on North Avenue in Jim Thorpe. During the tree lighting there was also a visit from Santa Claus.
Children had the opportunity to meet and talk with Santa Claus.
After the children met with Santa Claus, they had the opportunity to pick out a couple of toys.
Hot chocolate and cookies were served.
The event was sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Community Athletic Association.
Kyle Sheckler, President of the JTCAA, wished to thank everyone who made donations and helped with the event. Among them were: Hills Tree Farm, Carbon County Treasurer Ron Sheehan, Mauch Chunk 5 and 10, Gene Binder of Binder Insurance, Suzanne Graf, Jerry Bing Inc., Leroy Strohl, Joann and Dirk Pompa, Kevin Binder, the Highland family, Harold Baker IV, and members of the JT Community Athletic Association.
Sheckler said that the tree lighting and visit from Santa Claus is a way to give back to the community.
"We (JTCAA) are here to give back to the community. We want to thank the community for all their support," Sheckler said.
Throughout the year the JTCAA hosts fundraising events, including a spring carnival, to raise money for the field.
"We raise money for the field so the community and children have a place to play," Sheckler said.
Earlier this year an electronic scoreboard was donated to Sam Miller Field. This is the first electronic scoreboard for Sam Miller Field. Sheckler thanked all who donated time and money to help get a new score board for the field.
