With 24 bicycles to give away and a jolly man in red arriving on a fire truck, Lehighton's belated "Christmas in the Park" had plenty of excitement for the several hundred people who gathered in the park on Friday night.
The holiday event was a project of Lehighton Downtown Initiative and it was a big success.
The Lehighton Band played holiday tunes and when Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus arrived on a Lehighton Fire Company truck, there was excitement in the air. When the honored couple turned on the lights on the Christmas tree, everyone cheered.
Frank Potoczak, president of the Lehighton Downtown Initiative, served as master of ceremonies and was helped by Joe and Marge Federanich, Palmerton Lighting Committee, and Ben Beckett. Lehighton Girl Scouts offered free hot chocolate and decorated the Christmas tree before the lighting ceremony.
