A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 12:12 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, along SR895 in South Manheim Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Sean M. Hess, 21, of Auburn, was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am westbound and entered the eastbound lane where his vehicle struck a 1999 Honda Civic operated by Ramiro Rodriguez-Zavala, 47, also of Auburn, head-on.

Rodriguez-Zavala was injured and taken to the West Reading Hospital for treatment of what troopers said were moderate injuries. Hess was not injured.

Hess was found to be under the influence and not wearing a seat belt. He was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI, troopers said.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
