Northern Lehigh School District has composed a new strategy designed to get more of its elementary students to eat breakfast.

Assistant Superintendent Karen Nicholas noted that while 47 percent of the district's elementary students are on free and reduced lunch, only 3 percent of them are taking part in the district's breakfast program.

As a result, Nicholas noted that fliers were sent home to all families during the recent parent/teacher conferences.

"We need to put it out there how important it is for our elementary students to be eating breakfast in order to be able to learn what's necessary while at school," Nicholas said. "That's why we're trying something new."
