Sobriety checkpoints, roving DUI patrols conducted

The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following information from a recent Sobriety Checkpoint and Roving DUI patrols.

Seven police departments, represented by 17 officers participated in the checkpoint, which was held Aug. 24 in Schuylkill Haven. A total of 881 vehicles were contacted with 59 detained. Nine motorists were tested, with one adult arrested for DUI. Officers issued 18 traffic citation and 1 seat belt citation; made 3 criminal arrests; and issued 26 warnings.A roving patrol on Aug. 23 resulted in officers detaining 38 vehicles. Two drivers were tested for suspected DUI and one underage drinking arrest was made. Officers issued 30 traffic citations and 1 seat belt citation; made 1 criminal arrest; and issued 15 warnings. Five departments, represented by five officers, participated in the patrol.A roving patrol on Aug. 24 was conducted by two officers, representing two departments. Officers contacted 17 vehicles, with no one suspected of DUI. Officers did issue 12 traffic citations, made 1 criminal arrest; and issued 5 warnings.Sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols will also be conducted through Sept. 3 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunken driver.To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
