Palmerton has a need for an emergency generator at its Sixth Street Pump House.
To that end, the borough's Municipal Authority will accept bids for its installation, as well as associated site improvements, until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Borough Manager Rodger Danielson said the generator is necessary "so that if there's a long-term power outage, we would be covered."
"We discussed it for quite a while," Danielson said. "We really just decided that we need to eliminate the risk of having a long down period."
Danielson estimated the generator should cost around $40,000. It will be purchased from out of Municipal Authority funds, he said.
All bidders must attend a mandatory prebid meeting at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at which time they will need to meet with the Municipal Authority representatives on the western side of the Horsehead Corporation parking lot at 900 Delaware Avenue. All bidders will be signed in, and then escorted through the Horsehead Corporation site to review the project area.
The work is to be completed within 30 calendar days of the project start date.
