Clarification

Dear Editor,

I would like to reply to the Times News article regarding the Lansford Borough Council's meeting of Aug. 9. In particular, the statements made by Bob Silver regarding various residents' "delinquent" accounts.Mr. Silver, as well as many other residents, is able to obtain, through the Right to Know Act, many and varied borough records; financial accounts, sewer transmission accounts, sanitation accounts, etc.Unfortunately, the information disseminated is not always clearly understood by those receiving it, and rather than obtaining an explanation or clarification from the office staff, the question or accusation is presented at a public council meeting as fact.As neither the borough secretary, treasurer or council members were privy to what Mr. Silver's question was going to be, no accurate answer could be given at the meeting. However, Mr. Silver was urged to visit the borough office where the staff would try to address the matter in question. He did visit the office the next day, only to initiate another Right to Know, not looking for clarification of the statements made at the meeting. The borough office is staffed by very dependable, efficient, knowledgeable women who on a regular basis answer resident questions. We are happy and willing to correct any error or omissions, should they, after research, prove to be factual. The borough council and its various department truly work hard for the good and betterment of our community.Sincerely,ROSE MARY CANNONLANSFORD
