Although passers-by are credited with helping four family members escape from a fast-spreading dwelling fire on Friday morning in Lehighton, it was really Stephanie Roberts who proved to be the heroine.

Roberts and her three children were asleep when fire erupted in their residence on Bridge Street shortly after 6 a.m. Friday. Roberts was awakened by dense smoke. The children were asleep in another room.

"It was terrifying," said Roberts. "My thoughts were of the kids and getting them out."
