The beach at Beltzville State Park in Lehighton has been reopened to swimmers wishing to take a dip.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources reopened the beach Friday afternoon after water sample tests revealed that the bacteria levels in the water were again safe for swimming.

The lake has been closed to swimmers since Tuesday evening, after water samples revealed high bacteria counts in the lake.

Prior to this most recent closure, high bacteria counts last closed the swimming area in June 2012. Causes for bacteria levels to multiply and become unsafe for swimming include the weather and local animal populations, such as the geese that frequent the park.
