A Jim Thorpe woman is facing several charges, including drug offenses, following an incident that occurred last year in the borough.
Borough police said Jennifer Sue Hess, 35, of 15 E. Sixth St., is facing charges of two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance, and driving while operating privileges is suspended or revoked.
According to police on Nov. 14, 2012, they responded to the Hess residence for a report of a woman using illegal drugs. Prior to arrival police were told that the female in question had left the home driving a silver in color Suzuki sports utility vehicle and had come back to the home.
On scene police encountered Hess in her backyard with her 14-year-old son. The boy informed police that Hess came home and he saw her trying to stick something in her purse, which he believed was drugs. Hess' son stated the he tried to grab the drugs from his mother and she pushed him away and threw the drugs into the bushes.
The son showed police where he saw her throw the drugs. Police recovered a large bag containing a small amount of suspected crack cocaine and other paraphernalia.
Police spoke to Hess, who denied using drugs, and who stated her son had struck her. Police did not observe any signs of recent injury to Hess.
Police said Hess admitted smoking crack earlier in the day and claimed she was holding the drugs found. She also admitted driving a vehicle after smoking the crack cocaine. A records check showed her license was under suspension.
She was placed under arrest and taken to the Lehighton hospital for a blood test. The test results showed the presence of cocaine and hydrocodone.
