According to Pennsylvania Game Commission Land Management Group Supervisor Mike Beahm, who serves Carbon, Monroe and Luzerne counties, reports that a slow draw down of Brady's Lake, a 200-acre lake on State Game Lands 127 in Monroe County, is being done to allow native vegetation to grow in the flood plains of the lake.
Water levels will be allowed to rise starting in the fall to provide food and cover for migrating waterfowl on the lake that is open to year-round fishing to non-motorized boats. Food and cover crews will also attempt to plant annual agricultural crops in areas that will allow access and make the lake more attractive to nesting and migrating waterfowl.
In another project, Beahm stated that crews in Carbon County are preparing fields on SGL 40 and 141 for spring plantings. These projects include the planting of grains, clover and native grasses and were funded by the National Wild Turkey Federation Superfund sponsored by the Honey Hole Longbeards, and Pittman Robertson funds.
Crews are also creating early successional habitat adjacent to these fields utilizing a CAT297 with a Fecon forestry cutter and chainsaws. When completed the areas will have a total face lift and provide more quality food and habitat for all wildlife.
