Area residents escape injuries

Four area residents, two from Tamaqua and two from New Ringgold, escaped injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 4:05 p.m. April 18 on Route 895 in East Brunswick Township.

State police at the Frackville barracks said the accident happened when vehicles operated by Jeremy E. Plasko, 35, of Tamaqua, and Gary J. Cherry, 46, of New Ringgold, were both traveling south on Route 895 and approaching the intersection with Rausch Road.Police said Cherry, driving a 1969 Plymouth Barracuda, was attempting to make a legal left-hand turn from Route 895 onto east Rausch Road, when Plasko, operating a 2001 Dodge Stratus, traveled into the oncoming northbound lane in an attempt to pass the Barracuda. In doing so, Plasko's vehicle struck the turning vehicle with its front end. Both vehicles traveled off the east berm of the roadway and ended up in a grass field.Plasko, Cherry and two passengers with Cherry, Sarah J. Hill, 24, of Tamaqua, and Dawn J. Rudy, 38, of New Ringgold, all escaped injuries.Police said the two vehicles sustained disabling damages and had to be towed from the scene.Police said Plasko will be cited for having caused the accident.
