The yellow brick road can be found at Marian Catholic High School this weekend as the Marian Class of 2103 presents the musical "The Wiz."
While remaining mostly faithful to the L. Frank Baum classic "The Wizard of Oz," the stage production takes Dorothy back to Oz and the old, familiar characters, with some twists.
The first musical adaptation of Baum's book was presented at the Majestic Theatre in New York City in 1903.
The latest production, the fifth, is a concept of producer Ken Harper, with a book written by Wiliam F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls.
The world premiere of "The Wiz" was held at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore, Md., on Oct. 21, 1974.
Following engagements in Detroit and Philadelphia, it opened in New York once again at the Majestic Theatre, on Jan. 5, 1975.
MGM studios produced the classic movie featuring Judy Garland in 1939.
Marian's production is being presented by permission from Samuel French, INC., NYC.
