Charges are pending against a Schuylkill County teen driver and a passenger, following a two vehicle crash that occurred about 5:21 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at the intersection of state routes 895 and 443, in McKeansburg, East Brunswick Township.
State police at Frackville said a 17-year-old male from Cressona, driving a 2002 Saturn Vue, was stopped at a stop sign on 443 when he pulled out attempting to turn left onto 895. He pulled into the path of a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by James Justus, 55, of New Ringgold, who was westbound on 895.
Justus attempted to avoid a collision by swerving hard to the left but the two vehicles collided as the front of the Tahoe hit the front of the Vue. After impact the Tahoe struck a guide rail and crashed into a drainage ditch on the south side of 895.
The teen and passengers Michael Casper Jr., 18, and a 16-year-old female, both from Schuylkill Haven, were all taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville. Troopers said while at the hospital Casper was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. Troopers said Casper admitted smoking marijuana and four baggies of the suspected drug were found in his jeans pocket. He will be charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Also, a blood test was administered to the teen driver to determine if he was driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending the blood test results.
Justus sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention.
