5 Carbon municipalities have open burning bans

Five Carbon County municipalities have placed bans on open burning because of the dry conditions of outdoor vegetation.

They are East Penn Township, Mahoning Township, Jim Thorpe, Nesquehoning, and Summit Hill.Earlier this week a ban on outdoor burning was announced for all of Schuylkill County.Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. has instituted a "marginal red flag warning" for Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, and Northampton Counties through tomorrow because of the dry conditions and winds up to 15 miles per hour.Fire crews throughout the region were busy yesterday battling brush and forest fires. Among them were blazes in Lower Towamensing Township, Northampton, and West Penn Township.
