A Coaldale woman was injured after crashing into the rear of a PennDOT contractor's street sweeper yesterday afternoon along US209 in the Seek section of Coaldale. Witnesses in adjacent yards and in vehicles following behind said that that the driver of the car, a 1997 Accura, drove through a cloud of thick white dust before impacting the rear of the street sweeper, which was staged on the right side of the westbound US209 near the West Miners Street intersection. The impact caused the car to spin and the street sweeper to be pushed a good distance. Police listed the driver of the car as Anne Demyanovich of Coaldale and the driver of the street sweeper as Susan Pireda from Bartow, of Stanley Sweeping and Ground Maintenance. Demyanovich was transported via ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem while Pireda sought treatment later in the day. Responding in addition to Coaldale Police were Lansford Ambulance, Coaldale Ambulance, Coaldale Fire Company and Coaldale Fire Police. Dwayne Green, a Coaldale firefighter, also offered quick assistance, as he witnessed the accident from his vehicle. Police officer Keith Krapf stated the incident is still under investigation.
