After about a year of planning and three months of construction, the new outdoor multiuse Legacy Plaza, nestled behind the Marian Catholic High School in Hometown, is complete. The Legacy Plaza was dedicated Friday evening in front of over 200 spectators, which included alumni, teachers, staff, football players, cheerleaders, band members, parents and others.

The new plaza, which stretches the entire length of the school's football field, was dedicated by Bishop John Barres from the Diocese of Allentown."This project celebrates the whole spirit of Marian," said Bishop Barres during the dedication.It was donated through the generosity of the Svetz family in dedication of Theresa Svetz of Hometown and the late Joseph J. Svetz, both lifelong supporters of Catholic school education. It was planned and funded by their seven children, all of whom are Marian alumni, and their families. The seven children are Terry, Wayne, Cindy, Bruce, Greg, Cheryl and Joey."The plaza was constructed of over 10,000 bricks and 7,000 pavers," said Bruce Svetz, a 1983 graduate."Alumni, friends, business and community supporters can leave a permanent impression at Marian High School through an inscribed paver project where one can donate and recognize or remember an individual, family, business or organization," said Sue Gerhard, director of the alumni and business development office at the school.The nearly 4,000-square-foot plaza was designed as a destination for students, family and alumni to enjoy year-round. Towering over the plaza is a 10-foot-high bronze horse kicking high into the sky.Two statuesque brick arches link the plaza with the Men of Marian football stadium. Architectural lighting, bollards and a fence are also installed around the plaza.In addition to sporting events, the plaza will be used during school hours, concerts, fundraisers and simply to relax.All profits from the Legacy Paver Project will go directly to Marian High School; 50 percent of the proceeds will go to needed infrastructure improvements at the school. Svetz added his family's appreciation to Dan Schroeder, Wayne Postupak, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Shickora, school Principal Sister Bernard Agnes, Stan Dakosty, and all supporters, friends, school staff, parents and students.The remaining 50 percent will be allocated to support upgrades in educational resources, to include technology, music, student programs and expansion of educational offerings.Anyone wanting to purchase one of the over 7,000 inscribed legacy pavers, is encouraged to call the school at (570) 582-0021 or email
