Since settling in the Lehigh Valley in 1981, she has exhibited her paintings and photography in solo and group settings both regionally and nationally. She has received numerous awards, including "Best of Show"' at the PA Farm Show Scholarship Founation Juried Exhibit in 1999, and was also included in the top 100 paintings on the 'National Arts for the Parks' in Jackson, WY in 1996.

Dean is a member on the Board of Directors for the Lehigh Art Alliance; having served as President, exhibit chair, treasurer and membership chair. Other related membership include Bethlehem Palette Club, New Bridge Group, Lehigh Valley Arts Council, LV Photography Club, ACE (Art Community of Easton) and Perkiomen Art League. Currently, Dean is Assistant Director for the East Central Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in her district. She also teaches art and craft classes throughout the region and is a picture framer by trade.

Dean states that she draws inspiration through attending these organizational meetings, demos, workshops and painting trips.

"I create from large expansive to small intimate sky and landscapes using oils and pastels," said Dean. My extensive travel experiences and many excursions on remote country roads provide me with an abundance of creative ideas."

She added, "I am attracted to the intensities of the western landscape for its grandeur, geology and sudden climate changes. However, the subleties of the east provide serenity through its soft earth tones, blue green hues and patterned fields. The sheer power of the weather plays a vital role in my work, as do the seasons. Capturing these dramatic forces, as well as portraying the elegance of nature, brings to me a sense of deep connection and gratitude with great possibilities. This needed homage and appreciation of the earth and the natural world represents the essence of my work. It is my sincere hope that this appreciation, as well as a deep sense of peace and understanding, is conveyed to the viewer.
