Longhi Financial of Tamaqua has made a $2,500 contribution to the Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program at Marian Catholic High School, Tamaqua.

The program helps fund need-based scholarships at Marian.

"Marian students have benefited greatly from the generosity of area companies such as Longhi Financial. Our school community is extremely grateful to this company for its support," said Director of Development, Susie Gerhard. "EITC gifts are a tremendous help to our Marian families. Donations of any amount are eligible for the tax credit."

Marian is an approved scholarship organization and is designated to receive contributions through the EITC program, which is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. Businesses that donate to Marian are eligible to receive tax credits amounting to 75 percent of their charitable contribution for a one-year period.

The tax credit increases to 90 percent if the company commits to making the same donations for two consecutive years. A business paying taxes in Pennsylvania can receive up to $300,000 in tax credits annually.

Sister Bernard Agnes, IHM, Principal said, "This program is a win-win situation for the participating companies and the school," said Sister Bernard Agnes, IHM, Principal. "Each year, companies contribute to our school and are extremely happy to support scholarships at Marian to assist families who might not otherwise be able to send their children to here."
