One of two drivers involved in a crash about 8:34 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, along SR61 in Deer Lake borough, Schuylkill County, has been cited.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Nighat N. Karim, 26, of Orwigsburg, was operating a 1998 Toyota Camry northbound and failed to negotiate a right curve. The Camry traveled through the curve as Karim swerved abruptly to the left for unknown reasons. As Karim passed a vehicle that was attempting a left turn, his car began to rotate clockwise and crossed into the oncoming lane and into the path of a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina operated by John C. Tabler, 29, of Orwigsburg, who was southbound.

The front of the Camry struck the front driver's side of the Lumina.

After impact the Camry traveled back across the northbound lane and struck the guide rail along the east berm, where it came to rest. After impact the Lumina traveled about 170 feet south and rotated clockwise coming to rest in the middle of the road.

A passenger with Tabler, Desiree Tabler, 30, same address, sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville. No one else was reported injured.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Troopers cited Karim for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
