Pocono Mountain Regional police reported the arrest of a Wayne County man on theft charges.

Police said David Eldred, 28, of Newfoundland, was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 11, with the assistance of state police at the Blooming Grove barracks in Pike County.He has been charged with theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, theft by failure to make required dispositon, deceptive business practices, and receiving stolen property.According to police on June 3, Jerry Yaremko, 65, of Palmerton, went on website, Craig's List, looking for a general contractor to do work at his vacation home in Tobyhanna. Eldred responded to the request and signed a contract with Yaremko to do the work.Yaremko gave Eldred a check for $7,500 for the work. Eldred cashed the check but never did the work.When confronted by police, Eldred admitted receiving the check and cashing it. He said he used the money to pay bills.He was arraigned before a district judge and released on $2,500 unsecured bail.
