NL boys, NW girls get wins

The Northern Lehigh boys and the Northwestern girls picked up victories in scholastic soccer action on Friday.

GIRLS TENNISBangor-Pleasant Vy.Bangor made quick work of Pleasant Valley, cruising to a 7-0 non-league victory.Ashley Jones and Jess Wain lost just one game combined in their two singles wins and then combined for a victory in doubles play.Bangor 7, Pleasant Valley 0SINGLESAshley Jones (B) def. Faith Christian's Rachel Shive led the way with four goals.Lehighton had goals by Sydney Gandy, Allison Andrews, and Amanda Arabou.The Lions had 24 shots on goal. Kayla Troutman, the goalkeeper of the Indians, was able to make 17 saves.Lehighton falls to 0-1 on the season. Faith Christian Academy stands at 1-0.Northwestern-Central CatholicNorthwestern defeated Allentown Central Catholic in the Jahna Haldemean Foland Memorial Soccer Tournament, 6-3.Goals for Northwestern were scored by Sarah Segan (three), Sabrina Mertz (two), and Anna Fricchione. Mertz contributed an assist as did Angela Motolese, Alexis Gawelko, and Jenny Hallingstad. Laura Hill had 12 saves as the goalie.Central Catholic had goals scored by Emma Hallowell (two) and Katie Searles. Hannah Prisaznik had nine saves as the Central Catholic goalkeeper.Northwestern improves to 1-0 on the season. Central Catholic now has a record of 0-1.Nazareth-Pleasant ValleyNazareth came out on top against Pleasant Valley, 3-2, in a non-league game.Pleasant Valley goals were scored by Dianna Connor and Emily Schlogl. Maria Cimino and Connor each contributed an assist.Hannah Oren (two) and Lennon Kramer did the scoring for Nazareth.Nazareth had 12 shots on goal to Pleasant Valley's 11.Hailey Parks and Janelle Pastrana were goalkeeping for the Lady Bears. They combined for seven saves.Nazareth is now 1-0. Pleasant Valley is currently 0-1.BOYS SOCCERCentral Catholic-NorthwesternAllentown Central Catholic defeated Northwestern in the Salisbury Falcon Invitational Tournament, 5-0.Central Catholic goals were scored by Andy Werner (two), Matt Wagner (two), and James Feichtel.Skylar Strauss and Trevor Grigoruk had nine saves as the Central Catholic goalies.Northwestern was aggresive with nine shots on goal, but unfortunately came up empty. Kyle Snyder and Jarrett Humes had four saves as the Tigers' goalies.Central Catholic improves to 1-0 on the season. The Tigers now stand at 0-1.No. Lehigh-CatasauquaThe visiting Bulldogs cruised over Catasauqua, 9-1, in a Colonial League game.The Bulldogs had an overwhelming advantage in terms of shots on goal, with a 25-3 advantage. Tyler Hoppes and Aaron Harding had two goals apiece. Jacob Traca, Nate Czarnecki, Sean Mulcahy, and Dan Fine also contributed goals. Gavin Kemery added an assist in the victory. Nate Rex had two saves for Northern Lehigh.The lone Catty goal was scored by Nicholas Rossnagle.The Bulldogs are now 1-0 on the season. Catasauqua falls to 0-1.GIRLS VOLLEYBALLLake Lehman-WeatherlyLake Lehman defeated Weatherly in a non league game, 25-21, 25-16, 25-18.Standouts for Weatherly included Jess Adamaczyk who totaled nine digs, two kills, three blocks, and four aces. Carlie Hinkle conributed nine digs and two aces. Krissa Titus had seven digs, two assists, and two aces.Lake Lehman was also victorious in the JV game, 25-17, 12-25, 25-14.Pleasant Valley-EastonPleasant Valley defeated Easton in a non-league game, 25-19, 25-20, 25-15 to start their year off on the right track.Courtney Miller contributed nine kills and one block for the Bears. Makenzie Dorney had seven digs, three kills, and two aces. Kierstin Griesback recorded 10 assists, two aces, and two digs.Steph Schmitt had a great game with 11 assists.Also having strong games were, Allison Markowski (six digs, two aces); Bridget Lozier (four assists, three blocks); and Katie Lenart (six digs).The Bears are now 1-0. Easton is currently at 0-1.FIELD HOCKEYNazareth-Pleasant Vy.Pleasant Valley came out on top against Nazereth in a non-league game, 2-1.The Lady Bears had a goal by Melissa Russo, assisted by Samantha Moss. Later in the game Russo returned the favor as she assisted Moss, who scored a goal of her own.Pleasant Valley goalie Rachel Wild had six saves.The lone Nazereth goal was scored by Michaela McDonough.Pleasant Valley improves to 1-0. Nazereth is now 0-1.
