Coaldale Fire Co. hosts open house

Coaldale Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 held an Open House on Monday evening to mark Fire Prevention Month.

The event, which featured an inflatable house to help teach children how to escape fires, drew a good audience. The children received free fire helmets, got to try on protective gear, and sit in a fire truck. Firefighters demonstrated how their gear works, what a smoke alarm sounds like, and what to do if one's house catches fire.

CHRIS PARKER/TIMES NEWS Jaeda Hay, 9, of Coaldale, sees firefighting gear from the inside out. The protective clothing and helmet were a lot heavier than she thought.
