The 13th annual Lights On Afterschool program will be held across the country on Thursday, Oct. 18.

In Carbon County, the Carbon and Schuylkill SHINE and Career Academy will hold a special assembly for the community at 5 p.m., Thursday, at Panther Valley High School. The program will be held in the school's auditorium. All are welcome to attend.

This year's theme is "Light it up with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics)."

Participating will be the SHINE children from Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Mahanoy Area, Panther Valley, Shenandoah Valley, Trinity Academy, Our Lady of The Angels Academy, St. Joseph Regional Academy and SS. Peter and Paul schools. They will perform activities that they learned throughout the year.

Following the program, light refreshments will be served.

The goal of the Lights On Afterschool event is to help call attention to the afterschool programs that keep children safe, inspire them to learn and help working families.
