Palmerton upset Northern Lehigh in field hockey to highlight Thursday scholastic sports card.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northern Lehigh-Palmerton

On the Lady Bombers' Senior Night, the hosts prevailed in a hard-fought 2-1 win in overtime over Northern Lehigh.

Palmerton's Kyla Rodrigues scored the game-winner in the extra session to give her team their best record since 1989 with a final overall standing of 8-10.

Northern Lehigh's Shannon Weil scored her team's sole goal in the second half, only to be countered by the winners' Kaelyn Englert, sending the contest into OT.

The Lady Bulldogs outshot the hosts 9-8 in the game, as the winners' goalie, Devon Smith stopped eight and Nolehi's Nicole Horn had seven saves.

Northwestern-Catasauqua

The Lady Tigers dropped a 2-0 setback to Catasauqua in Colonial League field hockey action, dropping to 0-16 on the season.

Catty's Hannah Edwards and Colleen Hickey were the goal scorers.

The locals' Julie Dietrich had 11 saves in the losing effort, while counterpart Janae Matos had three saves for the shutout.

BOYS SOCCER

Schuylkill Haven-Jim Thorpe

Schuylkill Haven came up with a big win over Jim Thorpe by a score of 3-1.

Jordan Russial, Kyle McGary, and Marcus Repella came through with goals for the 'Canes.

Matt Rich scored the lone goal for the Olympians.

Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.

In a battle of Mountain Valley Conference heavy-weights, Stroudsburg edged Pleasant Valley, 1-0.

The Mounties (15-2, 10-1) got a second-half goal from Jordon Ellison.

Zach Fuls had four saves for Pleasant Valley (12-5-1 , 7-5).

No. Lehigh-Palmerton

In a game between Colonial League foes that had playoff hopes on the line for the Blue Bombers, the Bulldogs played spoiler, ending those chances with a 6-5 soccer win.

Northern Lehigh got two goals apiece from Tyler Hoppes, Zebulon Shiffert and Aaron Harding. Nate Czarnecki and Harding both had assists for the winners.

The Bombers got two goals and an assist from Spencer Shigo and two goals from Austin Shupp. Devon Santos tallied the remaining score for the Bombers. Gabe Scott had two assists and Jonathan Schwarz had one.

LVCA-Weatherly

Weatherly's Tim Busher tied the contest up at 1-1 early on, before Lehigh Valley Christian Academy went on to Valley Christian Academy went on to the 6-2 win.

For the Wreckers, Charlie Wallish scored the other goal. Adam Capone had seven saves in goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

Palmerton-Lehighton

Allison Andrew and Amanda Acabou scored two goals each to elad Lehighton to a 4-3 non-league victory over Palmerton.

For Palmerton (2-15), Brianna Doherty had a pair of goals and KayceeBlasiak scored once.

The Bombers led 3-1 at halftime before Acabou scored twice to tie the game. Andrew then got the game-winner with 12:31 remaining.

The Indians (4-14) had a 14-8 edge in shots.

LVCA-Weatherly

Trailing 3-2 at halftime, the Lady Wreckers fought to the end before dropping a 4-2 decision to Lehigh Valley Christian Academy in girls soccer action.

Abby Parnell scored two goals for the winners and Paula Herbert had a goal and an assist.

For Weatherly, Erin Dougherty tallied both goals.

VOLLEYBALL

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

The Lady Olympians prevailed in straight sets with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-23 win over Tamaqua.

Derrian Gulden had twelve service points, four aces and six kills for the winners, while teammate April Donnon's five kills and Alexis Baddick's four kills, four blocks and four digs came in handy in the win.

Marian-Northwestern

Marian Catholic defeated Northwestern in a non-league volleyball contest, 25-16, 25-12, 25-12.

Marykate Sherkness had 12 kills and eight digs to lead Marian. Grace Boyle added eight aces and four kills; Abby Stankiewitch had four kills; Nikki Collevechio had seven digs; and Abby O'Donnell chipped in with 29 assists.

For Northwestern, Trista Cunningham had five kills, Sara Hufnagle had seven assista and Mariana Valencia added 11 digs.
