CROP Walk planned
The CROP Walk for the Lehighton/Weissport area will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Lehigh Canal Park in Weissport. Participants can walk four miles or one mile.
The walk starts at 2 p.m.
Each walker needs a sponsor form and seeks donations. To receive a sponsor form please contact Shirley Radler at (610) 377-4278.
CROP walks are a Community Hunger Appeal of Church World Services, which not only provides emergency relief, but also self-help and development types of services. There are 34 denominations that participate in this effort.
Locally, Life (Lehighton Interfaith Fellowship) is coordinating the walk. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised are donated to the Trinity Pantry. The Trinity Pantry received $ 1,037.57 from the Crop Walk held in 2011.
The Trinity Pantry serves families living in the Lehighton Area School District and is a satellite of Shepherd House Inc., Carbon County's Food Distribution System.
Seventy-five percent of the funds raised are donated to Church World Services for its long range, self-help and development programs.
Trinity happenings
Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold a contemporary service at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct 14 featuring the Praise Band. The Rev. Kurt Garbe, associate of the Bishop of NEPA synod, will preside. Coffee house fellowship follows.
A nursery is available during the worship service for children through age 6, staffed with an experienced caregiver who is trained in CPR and first aid and a youth volunteer.
Power Hour Sunday School for ages 3 to grade eight will be held in Luther Hall. Adult members of Trinity are encouraged to attend an important meeting starting at 10:15 a.m. in the sanctuary led by Rev. Garbe concerning the next steps in the process to call a new pastor.
Free community dinner
All Saints Episcopal Church, 301 N. Second St., Lehighton, will host a free community dinner from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17. Everyone is invited.
Beltzville Lions
Beltzville Lions will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at St. Peter and Paul school hall. Anyone interested in attending is invited to call (610) 533-9311.
Members are encouraged to bring a friend or family member.
