There will be a Halloween event for the Jim Thorpe community from 3 p.m to 9 p.m. today at Memorial Park.
The event is designed to give the community the chance to have a family night out in the park. The rain date is Oct. 13.
There will be hayrides, pumpkin painting, crafts, games, and food. Boy Scout Troop 555 will be assisting with the hayrides. There will also be a campfire after dark and live music from 6-8 p.m.
Anyone dressed in a Halloween costume will be given a bag to use for Trick or Treat night, while supplies last.
Mums, pumpkins, and gourds will be available for sale.
There will also be anti drug and/or anti crime information available at the event.
This event is associated with the Jim Thorpe National Night Out Committee and Jim Thorpe Community Watch. National Night Out (NNO) is a crime and drug prevention event that takes place every August in communities all over the country. This year was the first year that the town sponsored the event.
Cindy Henning, NNO Coordinator, stated that after it took place in August, members of the community said they would like to see more family events like that at Memorial Park. Henning said that the NNO committee would like to sponsor more family events in the community.
