Marian defeated rival Nativity in volleyball action on Thursday.

Lehighton and Panther Valley also picked up volleyball wins while Northwestern rolled to a girls soccer victory.

VOLLEYBALL

Marian-Nativity

Marian improved to 10-0 after earning a 27-25, 25-8, 23-25, 25-22 Schuylkill League win over rival Nativity.

Marykate Sherkness led the Fillies to victory with 18 kills and 13 digs. The winners also received 42 assists from Abby O'Donnell and 10 kills from Grace Boyle.

For the Green Wave (8-3; 7-3), Megan Curry recorded her 1,000th career assist. Samantha Pogash also finished with 13 kills.

ES North-Lehighton

Lehighton swept East Stroudsburg North at home, winning 25-18, 25-14, 25-9 in Mountain Valley Conference play.

Tiff Thompson led the Indians (9-3) with nine kills, while teammate Dallas Seltzer paced the team with 12 digs. Taylor Yurasits dished out 22 assists.

Lehighton also won the JV match, 25-10, 26-24.

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Pottsville defeated Tamaqua on the road 25-21, 25-10, 25-10 in Schuylkill League action.

Jackie Valasek had five service points and five kills for Tamaqua. Devan Sweeney had four kills and one block. Rylee Devlin led Tamaqua with four digs.

Pottsville also won the JV game, 2-0.

Blue Mt.-Jim Thorpe

Blue Mountain swept Jim Thorpe 25-17, 25-19, 25-20 in a Schuylkill League contest.

Brittney Moyer had 16 kills and five blocks to lead the Eagles (10-1).

The Olympians earned the victory in the junior varsity match.

Minersville-Weatherly

Minersville picked up a road win in Schylkill League action, 25-19, 25-15, 15-19.

Lindsey Douglas had three digs, two assists and two blocks for Weatherly. Karlee Hinkle added three digs and four assists, while Shannon Sarosky contributed four assists and three digs.

Northwestern-So. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh defeated Northwestern 25-12, 25-10, 25-14 in Colonial League action.

Trista Cunningham led Northwestern with six kills while also adding two blocks. Mariana Valencia chipped in 10 digs.

Southern Lehigh also won the JV game 25-18, 25-18.

Panther Vy.-Schuy. Haven

Panther Valley picked up its ninth win of the year by defeating Schuylkill Haven, 25-22, 25-9, 25-5.

Richelle VanHorn and Jamey Mikovich led Panther Valley (9-3, 8-2) with 10 and nine kills respectively.

Fellow Panther Kelsey VanHorn picked up 20 service points and five aces, while Jessica Wiese added 13 service points and four aces.

GIRLS SOCCER

Palmerton-Northwestern

Seven different Northwestern players scored goals and the Tigers cruised to a 10-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Sara Segan opened the scoring with a pair of goals, while Sabrina Mertz and McKenzi Divers each tallied twice for Northwestern.

The Tigers also received goals from Anna Fricchione, Caitlin Harris, Lydia Danner and Rachel Fischer.

Sabreena Strauch, assisted by Jaclyn Wood, scored the lone goal for the Blue Bombers.

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

Pine Grove scored with 4:38 left in double overtime to beat Tamaqua, 2-1.

Kailee Rottet scored to give Tamaqua (11-5-1, 7-3-1) a 1-0 lead, but the Cardinals managed to tie it up with 17:55 left in regulation.

Carly Sassaman had seven saves in goal for the Raiders.

BOYS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Sch. Haven

Schuylkill Haven scored five first-half goals and went on to post a 6-0 win over Tamaqua.

Dylan Slotterback and Jason Wilson both tallied twice for the Hurricanes, who held a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal.

The loss dropped the Raiders to 5-10.

Schuylkill Haven (11-3) won the JV contest, 1-0.

M.S. FOOTBALL

Lehighton-PM East

Cody Scherer passed for 152 yards and two touchdowns to lead Lehighton to a 14-8 victory over Pocono Mountain East.

The Indians' touchdowns came on a 63-yard pass from Scherer to Gavin Zehner and a 37-yard pass from Scherer to Seth Keiser. A Nick Skrincosky to Zehner pass accounted for a two-point conversion.

JoJo Santiago, Ezra Neff, Eddie Ediem and Matt Gillispie all had sacks to lead the defensive effort for Lehighton (5-0).
