Norman Burger, president of the Chestnuthill 250th Anniversary Committee, went to the Ross Days celebration in Ross Township. He was asked how to start a historical society, he said at the Sept. 20 meeting of the committee.
Three people expressed interest in starting one. Burger told them if they come up with two more people he will attend a meeting to help formalize a society.
Ross, along with Eldred, Polk and Chestnuthill townships are all part of the original townships that were split off from Chestnut Hill, the original name. The four are working together to celebrate the 250th.
Burger said the original settlers settled Cherry Valley and Upper and Low Smith Gap, and gradually spread out.
Burger also passed out applications for potential new members of Polk and Chestnuthill societies. He did not have any available for Eldred.
He visited the Young at Heart senior center and some members said they have historical items which they will try to find. He also met a man who is writing a book, "The Story of Saylorsburg."
Stuart Thody said he talked to someone at the Chestnuthill Historical Society meeting who is writing a book about Effort.

"We need to have a parade," said Christman. It will likely take 12 months to prepare since it needs PennDOT and fire police coordination. She will bring in ideas for a parade in October.
Secretary Janet Johnson has a booklet for screen printing products that are made in the United States.
The levels of sponsorship have been approved as $5,000, diamond; $2,000 sapphire; $1,000, platinum; $500, gold; $250, silver; $100, bronze and "other.'
There are gifts for each level. If there is a major closing event, free tickets will be added to the sponsorship gifts.
Thody said too much of the preparations are resting on Burger's shoulders and he should be getting more help.
