Lighting the way for low income families

Friday, November 30, 2012
ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS Volunteers spent time recently preparing hundreds of luminaria candle kits available for sale. Tamaqua's Night of the Luminaria is Saturday Dec. 8th starting at 5 p.m. On this night, these luminarias can be placed in front of your home or anywhere else you choose in Tamaqua. The kit includes 5 luminarias. Proceeds go the Tamaqua Salvation Army to benefit low income families needing heating oil or coal over the winter. They can be purchased by stopping at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce, 114 W. Broad St., or by contacting George Taylor at (570) 668-4451. Volunteers Taylor and Jay Martinez fill luminaria kits with dirt. The dirt will hold the candles in place.
