After 13 weeks of prognosticating and office trash talking, the TIMES NEWS Sports Department has once again crowned Jason Boris its 2012 Grid Picks Champion.

It is Boris' seventh Grid Picks Title in his 12 years on staff (since 2001), as he finished the annual high school football contest with an overall record of 145-50 (a .744 winning percentage).Boris successfully defended his Grid Picks championship by leading the contest in 12 of its 13 weeks and blew the race wide open with a 14-1 record in week nine to take a commanding nine-game lead over the rest of the field. Boris also captured Grid Picks Championships in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011, in addition to four runner-up finishes in 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008. The only year he placed out of the "Top Two" was in 2010, when he finished in third-place overall. Boris' 12-year cumulative winning percentage is .753 (1,712-561).Finishing in second place was Brad Hurley, who ended up three games back with a record of 142-53. Hurley, in his second year on staff, improved on his fifth-place finish from 2011 by showing strongly down the stretch with a 36-10 combined record over the final three playoff weeks of the contest.Mike Haines and Emmett McCall tied for third place with records of 138-57, while Bob Ford's mark of 137-58 was good enough for a fifth-place finish.Sports staff veteran Ed Hedes claimed sixth place with a record of 135-60 and T.J. Engle finished in the seventh spot (133-62).Rounding out this year's field were Shawn McFarland in eighth place (132-62), Rod Heckman in ninth place (131-64) and Andy Steinmetz in tenth place (130-65). Finishing in last place overall was Grid Picks rookie Ron Gower,who finished 18-games back with a record of 127-68.
