Dear Editor:

We all read and saw all the destruction and turmoil that happened with Hurricane Sandy. We all have sympathy for these unfortunate people. Many people collected and sent down various things and food that they will need to exist.But that is the problem. How long can these people who lost their homes, all their possessions possibly hang on to what is left to their homes…that is if there is anything left to hang on to? So many are poor or unfortunate people who have mortgages with no flood insurance. They can't possibly hang on and fix these homes. What are they to do?What is the Mayor of New York City doing to help these people? A year or so ago he donated a million dollars to the "green" organizations to fight the use of coal. Why isn't he donating to the unfortunate people that need help now?Next thing…People/families need homes to live in. How come we don't hear one word about getting them the thousands of trailers that the government owns for such use. Down in New Orleans and in that area of the state, they still have huge amounts of trailers still down there. If there are people still in them, I think it is time to vacate them and send the trailers to New Jersey and New York where they are needed.Only one time did I hear someone mention, why wasn't the government sending the thousands of trailers that are stored in Kentucky? Why? I say it is about time.Yes, there aren't too many areas in the cities or urban areas of N.J or New York City where they can set them up, but I'm sure there are areas where they can do it. Like in the Pine Barons of N.J. that burned. Across into PA there are fields over a thousand acres that aren't being utilized but the government pays the owners a tremendous amount of money not to plant in them. Just, maybe, putting (Planting) the trailers there temporarily might be the solution.David KuchtaNesquehoning
