A Lackawanna County woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Schuylkill County on Wednesday night.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 8 p.m. at the intersection of state routes 61 and 895 in Deer Lake Borough.

Troopers said John Stambaugh, 49, of Reading, was northbound on 61 and approaching the intersection while Glen Cutshaw, 50, of Hampton, N.J., was attempting to make a left turn onto 895 from the center left turn lane of 61.

Stambaugh's vehicle struck the left rear portion of Cutshaw's vehicle causing it to spin counter-clockwise about 90 degrees into the southbound lane. Upon impact Stambaugh's vehicle began to roll, becoming airborne and landing with its roof onto the hood of a vehicle operated by Cody Zimmerman, 32, of Port Clinton.

The Stambaugh and Zimmerman vehicles came to rest against the guardrail.

A passenger with Stambaugh, Sharon Barney, 59, of Old Forge, was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by county deputy coroner William Cairnes.

Stambaugh sustained major injuries, troopers said, and was flown from the scene by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Cutshaw was not injured.

Zimmerman sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the Reading Hospital by a medical helicopter. Passengers with him, Kelly Zimmerman, 30, and two male juveniles, ages 6 and 2, were all taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said.

The roadway was shut down for an extended period of time and traffic rerouted.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers added.
