Delaware Valley College senior standout Travis Pitts of Tamaqua has qualified for the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and will head to Claremont, California for the three-day meet that begins on Thursday, May 24.
Pitts will appear in his second straight national championship in the 100-meter dash. He earned All-America honors last season as he finished eighth.
Pitts reached the NCAAs thanks to a standout performance this past weekend at the ECAC Championships. He recorded a preliminary time of 10.64 seconds which placed him 16th for the season. The national preliminaries are scheduled for 6:50 p.m. (PST) on Friday with the finals at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday.
He was recently named the MAC Male Track Athlete of the Year for the second straight season as he successfully defended his 100 and 200-meter dash crowns (he also won the 100-meter title as a freshman in 2009.
