The Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame will induct its 2012 class on May 27 at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe.

The doors will open at 12:45 p.m., with cocktail hour from 1-2 p.m. Dinner will be at 2, with the induction ceremony to follow.This year's Jim Thorpe inductees are as follows:James SofrankoJames "Peanuts" Sofranko graduated from Mauch Chunk Catholic High School in 1960, where he lettered for three years at the guard position.During his high school career he was known for his ball-handling skills, accurate long range shooting, intense defense, and deft passing.He was a coach for more than 20 years at the St. Joe's Regional Academy. He was the JV coach from 1972-79 and head coach of the Varsity boys CYO team from 1980-85.During this time period his teams won three Carbon East Schuylkill Championships.During the 1982 season, his team won the Allentown Diocesan Championship for the first time in 28 years. Jim resigned as the head coach, but continued to be the assistant to his Michael from 1995-02. During that time those teams won five CYO District 5 title and finished as a runner-up in the Allentown Diocesan Championship.Overall in twenty years of coaching, James coached his teams to 250 victories with a winning percentage of 78 percent. He was one of the founders of the St. Joseph CYO Boosters Club and served as a representative of the District 5 CYO for over 25 years.Jim is married to the former Florence Butchko and they have two sons.and four grandchildren.Art GuthArt Guth is a 1962 graduate of Jim Thorpe High School and was a stellar athlete in both basketball and football.In football, Guth lettered for two years for the Olympians. Guth started his career at Jim Thorpe at the guard position and then switched to right end for the seventh game of the 1961 season against Summit Hill Guth excelled at the position catching four consecutive touchdown passes in his debut at the new position.The next week Guth then caught another two consecutive touchdown passes and to this day the six consecutive touchdown passes stands as a school-record.Guth's performance at the end position was so impressive that he was name to the Honorable Mention All State team.Guth was the starting center for the very successful Jim Thorpe Olympians basketball program that won the Class "C" State Championship in 1962.Guth's accomplishments on the hardwood during the 1961-62 season also earned him a spot on the Honorable Mention All State basketball squad.Being named all state in both football and basketball makes Guth the only Olympians named to two all state teams in the same year.Guth also was a dedicated coach in football. He was the head coach at Jim Thorpe from 1984-88, a Palmerton assistant from 1988-90, a Jim Thorpe assistant from 1990-94, and a Panther Valley assistant from 2001-02.Guth has been married to wife Bernice for 45 years and has two sons and one daughter. Five grandchildren.
