Special Olympics PA Carbon County is hosting their annual Athletics competition Saturday at the Jim Thorpe Area High School Stadium. The competition will be begin at 11 a.m.

The group is in need of volunteers to help run this event successfully. Some of the areas where volunteers are needed for are registration, scorers table, runners for scores, set-up/clean-up, measurers, timers, athlete escorts, high-fivers, equipment retrievers and so on. Volunteers should arrive about 8:30 a.m. so as to allow enough time to prepare before the athletes arrive at 9:30 a.m.Those who are available to volunteer should call Sheri Anthony, SOPA volunteer coordinator, at (610) 737-0469, or email her at
