for baseball, softball

Seven area teams will be involved in playoffs this week to determine the Mountain Valley Conference, Colonial League and Schuylkill League champs in baseball and softball.

MVC Baseball

A play-in game will be needed after Pleasant Valley, Lehighton and East Stroudsburg South tied for the final two spots with 7-5 records. Pleasant Valley drew the bye, earning it an automatic berth into the league playoffs. Lehighton and ES South will meet on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Pleasant Valley to determine the final playoff team. If Lehighton wins the playoff game it will be the fourth seed and Pleasant Valley will be third. If ES South wins it will be the third seed and Pleasant will be fourth.

Pocono Mountain East is the No.1 seed and Stroudsburg is the No. 2 seed. They will both host semifinals games on Thursday at 5 p.m. The championship game wil be Saturday at 1 p.m. at a site to be determined.

MVC Softball

Top-seeded Pleasant Valley will host No. 4 seed Lehighton on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in one semifinal. Pocono Mountain East and Stroudsburg will meet in the other semifinal. The two winners will play on Friday at 5 p.m. at a site to be determined.

CL Softball

Palmerton and Northwestern have both qualified for the playoffs. Palmerton is the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 seed Saucon Valley while Northwestern is the No. 4 seed and will play No. 1 seed Pen Argyl. Both games will take place on Tuesday at Patriots Park in Allentown. The Palmerton-Saucon game is slated for 5 p.m. with the Northwestern-Pen Argyl game at 7 p.m. The rain date is Wednesday. The title game will be played on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Patriots Park.

SIAL Softball

Marian and Mahanoy Area tied for the Division 3 lead and will meet in a playoff today at 4:30 p.m. at Tamaqua to determine the qualifier for the league playoffs. If the Fillies win, they will play Division I champ (either Pine Grove or Pottsville) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the nightcap of a semifinal doubleheader at Blue Mountain. The championship game will be played Thursday at 7 p.m. at Blue Mountain.
