ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS A man escaped serious injury around 10 a.m. Sunday after he struck seven mailboxes and toppling a utility pole on Fairview Street, near the intersection of SR309 in Ginthers, Rush Township. The driver told officers he fell asleep. The driver, traveling west in a red Chevy Cobalt LS, came to rest in front of another utility pole. Responding were Rush and Ryan Township Police, Tamaqua Ambulance, Hometown Fire Company, Quakake Fire Company and Tamaqua Rescue Squad. Hometown Fire Police closed Fairview Street during the cleanup and a few hours later during the pole repair. The name of the driver wasn't available as of press time. This vehicle came to rest next to a utility pole after its driver lost control, drove over 7 mailboxes and toppled a utility pole. The driver escaped serious injury.
