The sheriff's office at the Schuylkill County Courthouse in Pottsville will be open extra hours it was announced by Sheriff Joseph G. Groody to accommodate people seeking to obtain gun permits.
The office, located on the first floor, will be opened Thursday, May 17, and Thursday, Sept. 13, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The norman hours the office is open is Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Groody commented,"To better serve county residents I will continue to offer office hours to accommodate law abiding citizens to give them an opportunity to apply for a license to carry firearms."
The fee for the license is $20 and only check or money orders will be accepted, no cash on the special open days. The checks should be made payable to Schuylkill County Treasurer.

Current license holders can only renew up to 60 days before their expiration date. Applicants must be 21 years or older to obtain a license and need the following:
Primary identification (current and valid state driver's license or a current state identification card). Also a person must submit two references and it cannot be a family member and the ID must have a current residing address.
