The Palmerton Community Festival is five months away but Carla Binder is already working on the 2012 details for the Craft Tent.

The three-day event this year will be held Friday-Sunday, Sept. 7-9.

"We have vacant vendor spaces we have to fill and we're looking for crafters to come showcase their talents," says Carla, the Craft Chairperson.

She's looking for crafters that are a step above church craft shows and just below high end. This is a juried craft show.

To be considered for a space in the Craft Tent, crafters must meet the following criteria:

*only handcrafted items of original ideas are acceptable

*the items must be the creation of the vendor

*no pre-assembled, pre-manufactured or kit items are permitted

*you must submit photos of your work and display for approval either by mail or email

*you must agree to have your space open for business the entire length of the festival

*you must agree to abide by all the Craft Tent and Festival regulations

And be sure to include a little write-up of what you do along with all your contact information. She adds a word to the wise ..."You need to have a sales tax license."

Display areas in the tent are approximately 7-10 ft. and comes with one electrical outlet included. You are responsible for your own displays and tables and must keep all storage containers hidden from view. The price for a space is $85. When you are approved, you will receive an application to fill out and return with payment to reserve your space. All payments are non-refundable, should you decide to cancel, unless she is able to find a replacement crafter to fill your space.

Carla is hoping to hear from artists, photographers, woodworkers, tinsmiths, and crafters who make things like baskets, stained glass, birdhouses/feeders, pottery, toys, baby items, lamps, candles, wreaths, seasonal decor, clocks, Christmas ornaments, painted glassware and jewelry (if very unique.)

The Craft Tent does not feature vendors such as Pampered Chef, Tupperware or Tastefully Simple.

The Palmerton Community Festival is one of the area's outstanding events and brings in thousands of people to the Borough Park in Palmerton. There is no admission fee and there is free parking.

"It's a good starting show for beginning crafters," says Carla.
