Slatington woman admits stealing laptop computers

A Slatington woman could be facing up to seven years in prison after admitting this week she stole 17 laptop computers valued at about $27,000 from her employer.

Brandi Vreeland, 37, issued a guilty plea to the charges this week in Lehigh County Court. She pled guilty to receiving stolen property.Vreeland allegedly stole the computers from Buckeye Partners of Breinigsville between July and October in 2010 while supervising a cleanup crew. The affidavit says she sold the 17 EliteBook laptops for between $225 and $325 each to David Richiez, 39, of Allentown. Richiez was sentenced earlier in the week for receiving stolen property and was placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program. As a result of a plea agreement, charges of theft by unlawful taking and criminal use of a communication facility, which were initially filed against Vreeland, have been dismissed.Sentencing for Vreeland is scheduled in Lehigh County Court in June.
