Several Carbon County schools are among the 379 in the state which have been rated as "antiquated and inadequate" by the State Department of Public Instruction.

Listed as "condemned" are the East End elementary school building of Nauch Chunk Township in Nesquehoning; the Tresckow elementary school in Banks Township; and the brick building secondary school of the Franklin Independent District.

The Mauch Chunk Township School Board has already been planning a new elementary building. Bids are to be opened in April.
