About two dozen volunteers with the new "Mobile Community Cafe", organized by the newly created Feed The People non-profit group, made a stop recently at the Mid Rise in Lansford. The cafe, which provides free hot meals every month at different locations and on different days, served hundreds of residents during the visit. Rita Trucios, director, Feed The People, talked about the program and its ideas for the future. Some ideas mentioned involved incorporating events and activities during the visits, such as chess, checkers, Dominos, guest speakers and even playing a mobile organ. "We only serve fresh food. No canned products," said Trucios.

Volunteering his parish to help with the meal was Pastor A.J. Domines of the Christ Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown. Domines grew up in Lansford and was ordained as a pastor. Also providing volunteers was Pastor Mike Mistrella of the Church on the Rock of Summit Hill. His youth group also helped provide decorations, music and other information. The group also delivered meals to homebound residents in the Mid Rise.Feed The People, which was started in early January, currently provides free meals every first Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Summit Hill Heritage Center, every second Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansford, and every fourth Thursday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Chirst Redeemer Church in Coaldale. The group also plans on starting a summer meals program for kids too. Trucios stated, "Our doors are open to anyone, not just seniors or Carbon county residents" Volunteers stated they are always looking for donations of money or paper products.
