Lansford police are urging anyone who receives a call alleging a relative has been arrested in a foreign country and needs large sum of money for an attorney to contact them.

Last Thursday, a resident told police she received a phone call from someone claiming to be an attorney and saying that a relative was arrested in Mexico. The caller told the resident a taxi would be sent to her home to take her to the bank to withdraw a large sum of money to pay legal fees.A taxi arrived and took her to a bank in town, but she then realized it was a scam. She took the taxi back home after deciding not to withdraw the money.Police say the driver of the taxi was male, with a long red beard, and was wearing a hat. The taxi was maroon.Police ask that anyone with a similar experience call them at (570) 645-5844.
